Working mainly in paint, she uses a variety of applied media, and techniques to achieve surface quality and create illusions.

Hilary's subject matter ranges from figurative still-life and landscape to the semi-abstract, including historical and nostalgic references, as well as motifs from her surroundings in England, and her home in France.

Heroes and influences include the Scottish Colourists Peploe and O'Connor, Magritte, Botticelli, Vermeer, Mondrian, Whistler, Fantin-Latour, Cezanne, the impressionists, Seurat, Hopper, Sargent and Gris.

After 5 years of formal art training leading to a Degree in Fine Art and a teaching certificate, she has taught Art in state Mainstream and Special Needs schools and also in the Independent sector for over 20 years.
